Opening Bonspiel

After many hours by Shelagh and Graeme, we finally managed to poach three of Aberlady's Junior Reserves to fill the  final places and 16 players approached the ice.

Game one saw Vice President Richard try his hand at skipping against Roy.  Team Richy must have thought that this skipping lark was easy as they took the first three ends and a 6 - 0 lead.  They learned that you should never count 'Dead Eye Roy and his Curling Stick' out, as the Black quartet fought back to only being one shot behind going in to the final end.  Team Taylor's nerves held firm thou as they claimed 2 shots and the win 9 - 6.  They should also be commended for getting in 8 ends!

Meanwhile..... Game two saw Euan Forbes trying his hand at skipping against the experienced duo of Andy McD backed by Ian Donald.   Euan must also have thought that skipping was easy as his team took a 2 in the first end.  Then the wheels came off !  Loses of a 5 and then a steal of 7 in the second and third ends made the eventual result inevitable.  With a considerable lead, Andy generously relinquished his position as skip to their own 14 year old recruit, Finlay. This allowed Team Forbes to take the final end and stop Team McDiarmid doing two complete laps of the board.

In a nice gesture, the winning team, Andy McDiarmid, Ian Donald, Shelagh Main and Finlay Richardson decided to donate their chocolate prizes to the three borrowed youngsters (Finlay R, Ali and Joey Breeze) who, despite the mixed results all seemed to enjoy the game.

The evening concluded with supper where we all caught up with "what I did during the summer holidays"
