Wingate underway

The League games started last night with two games.

James Pates rink took on the McDiarmid squad.  All seemed to bubble along evenly until five six.  In the final two ends Andy McD managed to rustle up 9 shots (the final end, a steal of 5 was presumable down to James chasing a big end).  The final score was 12 - 4.

Meanwhile the defending champion, Morgan took on the Maguire Rink, Graeme skipping his first Haddington league game, in his own name for circa ten years.  Defending champ got off to a slow start, giving away a 4 - 0 lead after three ends but getting them ALL back in the fourth.  A couple of traded 2 shot ends, saw them going in to the final end with the Maguire team with the hammer.  With lots of stones in the house, it eventually came down to a measure with team Nicoll taking the lead for the first time in the game and the win 7 - 6.

A long way to go though.

Start Your Engines

The Opening Bonspiel , last night threw up some interesting scores and facts.

Firstly, Congratulations to the winners - Ian Donald, John Good, Sean Barron and Sally Brown.  They managed a decisive 11 - 3  (and six ends to one) victory over a rink containing two of our Coronation League stars.  A big 4 in the first end and it looks like the McDiarmid rink was playing catch up.  By the time they scored their 3 in the fourth end, they were already down 6 - 3. .... Meanwhile

On the other rink there was another one sided battle with our next president beating our past president 6 - 2.  With Vice President Richard's team taking the first five of seven ends.  It was a tight game with all the ends except the first, going for singles.

An interesting fact (courtesy of Andy McD) was that of the 16 players on the ice, 7 had been with the club for two years or less.  Three of them, for the first time and one for the second.  We hope that they all had fun and will be with the club for a long time (Maybe even become treasurer/web master etc sometime!) So it was a big welcome to Emma, Sean (both in Dave Munro's rink in the Rennie) and Grace, our newest junior superstar/supersub.

 Coronation League update.

Although our league season has just started the Coronation League has been going for two weeks.

We started off the season with a strong 10 - 4 win against a useful East Linton team.  The loss of a 5 in our second game sealed our fate with a 4 - 9 loss to Mid Calder .
