This game is traditionally a chance to get to meet our new members. This year, however, most of our new members (like our treasurer) were away on holiday, so we look forward to greeting them as the season unfolds.
Our players enjoyed a chance to look round the improvements at the ice rink and then settled down to the playing and the eating and the drinking. The scorecards indicate wins for our President's team and the Vice-President's team. I wonder if they will be able to keep that up for the season?

Canadian Visitors
Our season got off to a very early start when four visiting Canadians from Oshawa Curling Club paid a visit to Edinburgh. They wanted to take on the BEST of Scottish Curling, unfortunately they were not available, so they had to make do with Haddington Curling Club.
After the best part of a year with emails going back and forth 'our' organiser then decided to go away on his motorbike when Jim Thedorf and his team hit our shores, so it was delegated to John Good to organise the 'Scottish' team.
In order to try and redress the balance, we enlisted our own Canadian, Julia Mackey (Aberlady CC) to join President Willie, John and Shelagh taking on Jim Thedorf and his wife Patricia and Henry Cornelissen and his wife Pauline.
I am reliably informed that, at times, both teams played well, played badly and had good/bad luck, so a normal Haddington game then. As hosts, we allowed them to take a lead, and as good guests they gave some of it back in the final end. The record shows a win to the Oshawa Vagabonds of 7 - 6.
The game was followed by the usual chat, supper and exchange of gifts.
